CENTRAL BROADCASTING FOLK ORCHESTRA
Founded in 1953, the Central Broadcasting Folk Orchestra was a full size orchestra with traditional Chinese instruments comprising of bowed-string, plucked-string, wind and percussion sections. Under the leadership of conductor and composer Peng Xiuwen, the orchestra made numerous recordings and some of them were among the best known recordings of Chinese music in the West. Peng also led the orchestra overseas and gave successful concerts in the USSR, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Yugoslavia, Albania, East Germany, Italy, Japan and Malta. His position was succeeded by Peng Jiapeng in 1997.
