CHARLES SANFORD SKILTON

(1868 - 1941)

The American composer Charles Sanford Skilton studied at Yale and at the Berlin Musikhochschule, before embarking on an academic career at the University of Kansas. His interest was aroused in the music of Amerindians and this had a profound effect on his own work. His compositions include operas on Amerindian themes and orchestral and instrumental works that reflect this fascination.
