Since its foundation in 1981 by Nicole Corti, the Britten Choir has contributed its own particular voice to French musical life, tackling major repertoire, bringing the first performances of contemporary works and of unjustly neglected French twentieth-century music. Its appearance in leading festivals and its recordings are testament to the choir’s distinction, recognised in 2010 by the Fondation Schueller-Bettencourt prize, awarded by the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Through the activity of the Young Symphonic Choir the ensemble equally plays a part in the training of tomorrow’s artists and their introduction to professional performance. Since 2014 it has been associated with the choirs and soloists of Lyon brought together under the title Spirito.
