DAMIAN WHITELEY

The Australian Damian Whiteley attended the University of Sydney, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Zurich Opera Studio. After early appearances at the Sydney Opera House he participated as a member of l’Académie Européenne de Musique in the Peter Brook production of Don Giovanni conducted by Claudio Abbado and Daniel Harding at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. He performs regularly with William Christie and Les Arts Florissants, including Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Teatro Real, Madrid and Deborah Warner’s production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the Opéra Comique, Paris, both issued on DVD. Operatic title rôles include Salieri’s Falstaff, Pasquariello in Gazzaniga’s Don Giovanni, Bartolo in Paisiello’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Abimélech/Old Hebrew in Saint-Säens’s Samson et Dalila and Phanuel in Massenet’s Hérodiade.
