The Spanish pianist Esteban Ocaña was born in 1975 and studied at the Cordoba High School of Music, continuing at the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, with Joaquín Achúcarro. During his training he attended classes with Paul Badura-Skoda, Hans Graf, Dimitri Bashkirov and Férénc Rados. His career as a soloist and chamber music player has taken him throughout the United States, Italy, France, Chile and Uruguay. He is a founder member of Versus Ensemble, a special group (piano, violin, saxophone, guitar and double bass) dedicated to the music of the Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. He has made a number of recordings with Versus Ensemble, including Homenaje Porteño (2001), Piazzolleando (2003), and María de Buenos Aires Suite (2007). His prizes include the Piazzolla Music Award in Milano-Marittima, Ravenna, together with the Diploma dʼonore in Chamber Music of the 2004 TIM-Torneo Internazionale di Musica in Rome. He has broadcast in the Argentine and the United States, as well as in various countries in Europe and in Australia, and teaches at the Granada Victoria Eugenia Royal Music High School. He leads piano studies at the International University of Andalucía and is artistic director of the project Grandes Maestros de Cerca and artistic director of Música en La Internacional in the UNIA.
