Violinist Evgeny Pravilov was born in 1983 in Minsk, capital of Belarus (then still a part of the Soviet Union). Both of his parents were professional musicians—his mother graduated from the Minsk Conservatory as a chorus director, and his father, after studying at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory with Gold Medal winner of the First International Tchaikovsky competition, Valery Klimov, returned to Minsk and served as concertmaster of the Minsk Philharmonic Orchestra.

Pravilov began studying violin at the Central Music School in Minsk. At 15 he moved to Moscow, first attending the Schnittke Moscow State Institute of Music, where his teacher was Victor Pikayzen, and then the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, studying with Alexander Kirov and graduating in 2009. Pravilov joined the Russian String Orchestra (RSO), then under its former name, the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, in 2005 and became its concertmaster in 2009. In addition to performing solos with the RSO, he also leads some of its performances both from his concertmaster’s chair and with the baton.
