The pianist François-Xavier Poizat, of French, Swiss and Chinese ancestry, was born in Grenoble in 1989 and completed his diplomas at music schools in Geneva and Hamburg, and at The Juilliard School in Manhattan.
As a twelve-year-old he was invited by Martha Argerich to her Pacific Music Festival in Japan, who described him as a young pianist of deep lyricism and astonishing virtuosity. He has appeared in recitals in over 23 countries and as a soloist with leading orchestras.
Awards include the Young Soloist Prize of 2007, and the Special Jury Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2011, and he was a finalist in the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Vevey in 2013. He is artistic director of the Geneva Puplinge Classique Festival, which he founded in 2010.
He has studied further at The Juilliard School and with Benedetto Lupo at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
