FRANKFURT BRANDENBURG STATE ORCHESTRA
Founded in 1842, the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester (BSOF) is one of the leading orchestras in Germany. Principal conductors Nikos Athineos, Heribert Beissel and Howard Griffiths shaped the current profile of the BSOF. Former general music director Howard Griffiths (2007–18) introduced major education projects for German and Polish students.
In addition to the major philharmonic concert series in Frankfurt (Oder) and Potsdam, smaller concerts in the state of Brandenburg increasingly take place for new audiences. The BSOF regularly performs in the Berliner Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus Berlin. It has undertaken tours of Japan, Israel, Russia, Poland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and others. Since 2010 it has been the guest orchestra in Bayreuth at ‘Wagner for Children’.
