HANS VON BÜLOW

(1830 - 1894)

Distinguished as a pianist and as a conductor, Hans von Bülow was a piano pupil of Clara Schumann’s father, Friedrich Wieck, and later of Liszt, whose daughter Cosima he married. He was encouraged as a conductor by Wagner, who married Cosima after her divorce from her first husband. Von Bülow compositions for piano are technically demanding, as might be expected from one of Liszt’s most brilliant pupils.
