HIYOLI TOGAWA

Berlin-based Japanese-Australian violist Hiyoli Togawa studied at the Hochschule fur Musik und Tanz in Koln and the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Munchen, receiving her master’s degree in 2014. She was awarded first prize of the ‘Jugend musiziert’ at the Internationaler Viola-Wettbewerb in Markneukirchen in 2013, and received second prize at the Internationaler Brahmswettbewerb in Portschach in 2014. As an award winner of the Deutscher Musikinstrument-enfonds (Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben) she plays an instrument made by Paolo Antonio Testore from Milan (1749). Hiyoli Togawa has received several scholarships including the Oscar and Vera Ritter Stiftung, the Orlando Lassus Stiftung, the Werner Richard-Dr. Carl Dorken Stiftung and Live Music Now. Togawa has performed chamber music and solo recitals in Europe and Japan, and has played in ensembles with Igor Levit, Veronika Eberle, Jorg Widmann and Hariolf Schlichtig. As a soloist she has performed with the Philharmonie Bad Reichenhall, the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn and the Nordic Chamber Orchestra in Sweden. Togawa has also performed at festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the Heidelberger Fruhling.
