Joaquín Torre began studying the volin at the age of five with Alfonso Ordieres and continued with Francisco Comesaña, Raphael Bronstein, Dorothy DeLay and Felix Andrievsky at the Conservatorio de Música de Oviedo, the Real Conservatorio de Música de Madrid, the Manhattan School of Music, The Juilliard School and the Royal College of Music. He also holds a PhD from the Universidad Alfonso X ‘El Sabio’.

He is the winner of the XXVII Isidro Gyenes Violin Competition (Madrid, 1990), and the Lucy Dove Prize (London, 1992). Torre has performed as a soloist with orchestras, and as a recitalist and chamber musician throughout Europe, USA and Canada, South America, Japan and the Middle East. He has been invited to take part in the Aspen Music Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Academie Internationale de Músique, Tours (France), the Festival Internacional de Música de Espinho (Portugal), and the Festival de Noches de Música Española de Muscat (Oman).

Torre has taught at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, and currently he holds teaching positions as a violin professor at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, and the Universidad Alfonso X ‘El Sabio’. He is frequently invited to teach masterclasses and work with young orchestras. He is also a teacher at the Festival of Young Artists Bayreuth. He plays a violin made by P.A. Testore (Milan, 1736) and a bow made by J.P.M. Persoit (Paris, 1830).
