Jonathan Ayerst began his musical experience as a chorister in the english cathedrals of Truro and Wells, later winning several scholarships to study piano with the Armenian pianist Nellie Akopian. As a pianist he has performed throughout Europe, most notably with Remix Ensemble of Portugal, and recorded for radio stations such as BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, and the CD label Hyperion. Since 2000, Jonathan considerably diversified his career, studying organ, improvisation and composition. As a composer, his output includes an oratorio Exodus, a ballet Seagulls and Seahorses and a series of brass and organ works based on Gregorian chant. His own organ compositions were featured in the BBC Radio 4 play This Cold August Light by Jerome Vincent. He divides his time between Porto and London, teaching and performing as a choral conductor and completing a masters course in Psychology for Musicians at Sheffield University.
