A native of Puerto Rico, José Ramos Santana is one of the most acclaimed pianists of his generation. He has appeared as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Royal Philharmonic and the orchestras of Detroit, Saint Louis, Baltimore, San Antonio, Rochester, Utah, as well as with the American Composers Orchestra in Carnegie Hall and with the Moscow Philharmonic and Orchestre de L’Hermitage in their Latin-American tour. He has performed in music festivals such as Spoleto, Caramoor, Casals, the Grant Park Festival in Chicago, the International Keyboard Institute Festival in New York, the Bravissimo Festival in Guatemala, and the Amalfi Coast Festival in Italy among others. A prizewinner of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, he gave the world première of Glosas by Roberto Sierra, which received critical acclaim. His recital work has taken him throughout the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Central America and the Far East. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School where he studied with Adele Marcus and Sylvia Rabinof. He has also studied with William Masselos, Leon Flesher and Alicia de Larrocha.
