Juanjo Mena has established a reputation as a major force on the conducting scene. He has been artistic director and principal conductor of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, chief guest conductor of the Orchestra del Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, and principal guest conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has held the position of chief conductor of the BBC Philharmonic since September 2011, with highlights including concerts both at home in Manchester and at the BBC Proms, performances of Mahler and Bruckner symphonies, a Schubert cycle, several acclaimed recordings and a number of worldwide tours.
He has worked with many prestigious orchestras across Europe, including the Berlin Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Oslo Philharmonic, Munchner Rundfunk Orchester, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Spanish National Orchestra and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
Since his début with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 2004 he has conducted most of the leading orchestras in North America, including the Chicago, Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh symphony orchestras, the New York and Los Angeles philharmonic orchestras, the Cleveland Orchestra and The Philadelphia Orchestra.
