Born in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 1990, Jun Bouterey-Ishido began piano lessons at the age of five with Veronica Van der Knaap and Diedre Irons. After completing his Bachelor of Music (Hons) at Canterbury University (2008), he went on to the Liszt Academy in Budapest and the Stuttgart Musikhochschule, where he completed his Masters in Piano (2011). He is currently in the last year of the Concert Artist programme at the Musikhochschule, studying under Péter Nagy and Kirill Gerstein. He gave his first overseas recital at the Port Fairy Music Festival in Australia in 2002, and has since given numerous recitals in Europe, including in Switzerland, Hungary and Germany, as well as in New Zealand. He has received numerous awards including First Prize at the 2008 Kerikeri International Piano Competition, and has been greatly supported in his overseas studies by the Anne Reid Memorial Trust Scholarship, the Kiwi Music Scholarship, and the Keith Laugesen and Tytheridge Travelling scholarships. While under the tutelage of Gao Ping at Canterbury University he played in various recitals with him, occasionally as violinist. He recorded the orchestral version of Questioning the mountains with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in August 2012.
