KEITH BURSTEIN (b 1957 )
Keith Burstein has followed the advice of one of his mentors, Arvo Pärt, who said he must write “from the heart, to the heart”. He has composed a number of works with humanitarian themes and concerns including a Requiem for the victims of the Marchioness river boat disaster and a meditation on the Holocaust, Year’s Midnight. His opera, Manifest Destiny, produced by Corin Redgrave and with sets by Ralph Steadman, was performed at the Edinburgh Festival and by Opera Up Close in London, and is set across the geo-political divides of the last years. The latter work created much publicity and diverse commentaries internationally. In recent years he has been supported and inspired by the musical friendship of the great pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy who initiated this recording project to release Symphony ‘Elixir’.
