KYUHEE PARK (b 1985 )
Kyuhee Park was born in Incheon City, South Korea, in 1985, and started to study the guitar when she was three years old. She won first prize in the Youth Section of the National Korean Guitar Competition when she was nine, and in 2004 entered the Tokyo College of Music. She participated in an opera-tour, conducted by Seiji Ozawa, and was taught by Shinichi Fukuda and Kiyoshi Shomura, leading Japanese classical guitarists. She now studies at the Vienna Music University under Alvaro Pierri. Kyuhee Park’s awards include first prize in the 2005 Korean Guitar Music Competition, first prize and audience prize in the 2007 Heinsberg International Guitar Competition, and first prize in the 2008 Printemps de la Guitare International Competition, the first woman and first Asian to win this prize. She took second prize in the Koblenz International Guitar Competition, first prize in the 2010 Agustín Barrios International Guitar Competition, and first prize and audience prize in the 2012 Alhambra International Guitar Competition. She took part in the 2009 Guitar Festa in Hakuju Hall, Tokyo, winning acclaim and attention in Japan. She made her recording début with Sueno for Fontec (Japan) in 2010 and Sonata Noir in 2012. In August 2012 she started a new collaboration with Nippon Columbia Co, Ltd and released a new CD, Spanish Journey. In October she took part in a concert at the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall in New York.
