LAP-MAN KU ï»¿
Ku Lap-man began his musical career in 1951 as a percussionist
with the Congzing Music and Dance Theatre, winning distinction in 1956 at the
China National Music and Dance Festival with his composition Dragon Dance. He
visited Moscow in 1957 for the Sixth International Music and Dance Youth Festival
as a member of the Chinese Youth Culture Troupe. On this occasion a dance drama
in the composition of which he had collaborated was given a silver award. From
1961 unit 1978 Ku Lap-man was conductor and deputy troupe leader of the Congzing
Music and Dance Troupe and thereafter joinedÂ the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.
He became conductor of the People's Association Chinese Orchestra in 1980 and
is advisor to the Music Department of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and a member
of the Advisory Committee for Music Activities of the Ministry of Information
and Arts, as well as serving as advisor for Braddell Heights Chinese Orchestra.
