LAZHAR CHEROUANA (b 1988 )
Born in Vienne in 1988, Lazhar Cherouana started learning the guitar at the age of six with the help of Raphael Vaccaro. He later studied at the Lyon Conservatoire National under the well-known Peruvian player and teacher Jesús Castro-Balbi, with the unanimous award of a gold medal. He continued at the Madrid Royal Conservatory with Miguel Trapaga, obtaining his diploma there with honours. He now studies at the Salzburg Mozarteum under Marco Tamayo, assisted by Maria Isabel Siewers and Wolfgang Guttmann, and furthering his knowledge of early music with Hans Brüderl and chamber music with Matthias Seidel. In addition to this he regularly works with Judicaël Perroy in Paris.
He is a winner of the international competitions “José Tomas” of Petrer, Fiuggi, Sevilla and Llerena, as well as of regional and national contests and of the European final organised by the Lion’s Club. In 2011 he recorded a recital for the French label Intégrale Classique and a second one, Soirée dans Grenade with Iberia Classic. In 2012 he was a laureate and received a scholarship from the Banque Populaire des Alpes and in the same year won first prize in the prestigious Pittaluga Competition.
