Mezzo-soprano Lucia Michelazzo was born in 1972 in Pordenone, Italy. She achieved her 1st class Singing Diploma in 1996 at the Conservatorio di Musica in Castelfranco Veneto-Italy, where her teacher was Stella Silva. Shortly afterwards, she gained her Piano Diploma. In 1997 she won the Young Emerging Voice prize in the Lignano Sabbiadoro Opera Competition, ranking second the following year. As a result, she sang the roles of Flora in Verdi’s La traviata and of Maddalena in Rigoletto with Associazione Lirica di Lignano Sabbiadoro. She took part in several performances touring with As.Li.Co. and Circuito Lirico Lombardo opera organisations, performing in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (1997/98), and in Schubert, a documentary by RAI Educational, Italy’s public TV broadcaster, in 1997. In 2000 she sang in the world premiere of Claudio Ambrosini’s Passione Secondo Marco in Teatro Olimpico, Rome, recorded live on CD and performed nationally for several years. After performing again in La traviata for Teatro Rosetum, she made her début as Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco at the Teatro Rosetum, Milan. In 2001 she performed as Bercy in Giordano’s Andrea Chenier, and in other roles in Milan. In 2003, after participating in the Let’s Make a Don Giovanni project held by Alan Curtis with the Fondazione G. Cini in Venice, she sang the title role in Gazzaniga’s Don Giovanni during Europe Rainbow Musica 2003, a role she repeated in 2008 during the Teatro Festival in Naples. In 2004 she toured Southern France, performing in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. Lucia Michelazzo has been performing in the Choir of Teatro Comunale in Bologna since 2000, singing solo parts in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut (2002), Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols (2002); Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2003) and Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra (2007), which was recorded live on DVD (Arthaus Musik, 2008).
