LUÍSA TENDER

Luísa Tender was born in Porto, Portugal in 1977. She studied piano with Anne Mennet, Helena Costa and Pedro Burmester at the Conservatório de Música and Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE) in her hometown. In 1997 she became a pupil of Vitalij Margulis in Los Angeles, going on to study at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London from 2000 with Irina Zaritskaya, obtaining her Master of Music in 2002. She was later awarded the Diplôme Supérieur d’Éxécution at the École Normale de Musique in Paris, where she was a student of Marian Rybicki.

Tender regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician, and her repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the contemporary. Her first release, Bach and Forward, recorded at the RCM studios, was reviewed as a top release of the month in Classical Music magazine in 2009. Tender’s second recording, Página Esquecida, was internationally praised, garnering critical acclaim in publications such as Fanfare magazine, Strings magazine, and das Orchester, among others.

Luísa Tender is a professor of piano at the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas (ESART) in Castelo Branco, Portugal, and taught piano at ESMAE from 2001 to 2003. During her studies she was the recipient of a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and a study support grant from the RCM. She is currently a researcher at the Centro de Estudos de Sociologia e Estética Musical (CESEM) within the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas at the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
