Manuel Porta Gallego is a member of the Meli Tango Quintet, and works with Grup XXI, the Chamber orchestra XXI and Granollers Chamber Orchestra. He teaches the violin at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceu. In 1994 he entered the Royal College of Music in London to continue his studies with Rodney Friend, graduating there with BMus (Hons) and a soloist and chamber music diploma. He has participated in master-classes with Igor Oistrakh, Jae Park, Aaron Rosand, Benjamin Zander and Sylvia Rosenberg. At the Royal College he won a number of awards, internal and external, and participated in various festivals with the Savage Quartet, recording with the BBC in the Halifax Festival. He represented the college in various concerts in British embassies in Rome, Paris and Berlin and played with the Ulster Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra. In October 1998 he played Bruch’s Concerto No. 1 in the Primer Palau and in 1999 Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasy in La Farándula de Sabadell and the Palau de la Música de Barcelona. From 1999 to 2004 he was a member of the Trio Kandinsky, with performances in Spain and abroad, recordings, broadcasts and television appearances.
