The mezzo-soprano Maria Luísa Tavares completed her studies in 1998 at the Centre d’Etudes Supérieures de Musique et Dance de Toulouse. She studied baroque performance practice in the early music department of the Conservatoire of Toulouse and at the Academia de Música Antiga de Lisboa, and has worked with Jill Feldman, Guillemette Laurens, Richard Gwilt, Antonio Florio, Hervé Niquet and Christina Pluhar. In 2003 she was awarded third prize at the Concours International de Chant Baroque de Chimay, Belgium. She is an active member of the São Carlos National Theatre Chorus in Lisbon where she has also performed as soloist under the direction of João Paulo Santos, Giovanni Andreoli, Donato Renzetti, Zoltán Peskó and Julia Jones. She has also collaborated with the Nederlands Kamerkoor and has recorded Gesualdo’s Madrigals Books IV–VI with the Kassiopeia Quintet.
