The soprano Mariana Zvetkova was born and raised in Bulgaria. After completing her degrees at the State Academy of Music in Sofia, she began her career in Bulgaria, singing the lead rôles in Il trovatore and Aida. To further her professional studies, she went to Italy to study with Boris Christoff at the Academy of Arts and Culture in Rome and at Indiana University with Martina Arroyo. Since then she has embarked upon her international career, which has taken her to La Scala in Milan, the Munich State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Tokyo National Theatre, the Lyon National Orchestra, Radio France, and the Semperoper in Dresden among others. Under the baton of Giuseppe Sinopoli, she has recorded Dvořák's Stabat Mater for Deutsche Grammophon, as well as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Radio France and Mahler's Fourth Symphony with the Radio Sofia Orchestra. She won the Grand Prix of the 1998 Toulouse International Competition, was a laureate at the Queen Elisabeth Singing Competition in Brussels in 1996 and took second prize at the Puccini Foundation Competition in New York in 1999. She is also the recipient of grants and awards from the Olga Forrai Foundation, the Singers Development Foundation, the Gerda Lissner Foundation and the Sullivan Foundation.
