Marianne Hellgren Staykov comes from the north of Sweden. She studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and at the Royal College of Music in London, where she won numerous prizes.

She made her operatic début in Vox Humana at the Theatre Museum Covent Garden in 1992. She has appeared in leading rôles in Carmen, Die Zauberflöte, Rigoletto, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Così fan tutte, Die Fledermaus, Mahagonny, Hänsel und Gretel, Le nozze di Figaro and Acis and Galatea at the Royal Swedish Opera, with guest appearances at Surrey Opera, London City Opera, English Touring Opera, Tansparant Muziektheater Antwerpen, Central Festival Opera, and with the Royal Carl Rosa Opera Company.

During her time in the United Kingdom she worked with English Touring Opera, Welsh National Opera, London City Opera, Carl Rosa Opera (touring Australia and New Zealand with the company), the Holland Park Festival and many others. Rôles included Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro), Despina (Così fan tutte), Olympia (The Tales of Hoffmann), Musetta, Yum-Yum, Mabel, and Adele in Die Fledermaus—one of her favourite rôles. Marianne has sung extensively in oratorio and on the concert platform with, amongst others, The King’s Consort and Le Parlement de Musique. Returning to Sweden, Marianne joined the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm as a principal artist in 2002. Her many rôles there include Gilda (Rigoletto), Queen of the Night, and Amor in Mats Ek’s internationally acclaimed production of Gluck’s Orphée.
