The Madrid-born soprano Marta Toba studied vocal technique at the Getafe Professional Conservatory of Music, Madrid, where she studied with S. Fuentes, E. López, V. Spatola and A. Joya, and later in Milan, where her teachers included F. Bandera and R. Malaspina. She has attended masterclasses with Ileana Cotrubas and Raina Kabaivanska, the latter culminating in a live concert held at the Teatro de la Zarzuela which was aired live by the Radio Clásica programme. She has also studied acting with Zulema Katz and drama with Álvaro Tato.
Roles in her portfolio include Mimì (La Bohème), Micaëla (Carmen), Quiteria (Telemann’s Don Quixote), and Spanish zarzuela roles in Luisa Fernanda, El Manojo de rosas, La Taberna del puerto, El dúo de la africana and La rosa del azafrán. Her choral repertoire includes Fauré’s Requiem, Vivaldi’s Lauda Jerusalem, and Haydn’s Seven Last Words, this last work conducted by Isidro Barrio. Reader’s Digest Musik included her in its 2015 feature ‘Himmlische Stimmen’.
