Mary Kenedi made her New York recital début at Carnegie Hall in April 1983 in a programme of works by Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, Mozart, Chopin and a new Canadian work written for her. After completing studies at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, and at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, she began to specialise both in the music of Bartók, Kodály, Liszt, and in contemporary Canadian works. She often commissions, gives the premières and records the works of these composers. She has toured extensively in Canada, Europe, New Zealand and Australia, playing programmes of both Hungarian and Canadian works. She performed for Jean Chretien, the Canadian prime minister in 1999 and has played concertos with many Canadian orchestras. She had the privilege of performing and recording with the North Czech Philharmonic under Charles Olivieri-Munroe. Mary Kenedi’s discography on the Centrediscs and Echiquier labels consists of the complete For Children by Bartók, the complete piano works of Kodály, and several other discs containing concertos, and Canadian works.
