MIGUEL ÁNGEL R. LAIZ
Pianist Miguel Ángel R. Laiz is a specialist in Spanish piano music. His comprehensive knowledge of the repertoire and his commitment to understanding its spirit and acquiring the necessary technical virtuosity to perform it have led to invitations to give lectures and masterclasses around the world. His busy concert schedule sees him giving recitals and making concerto appearances across Spain and in countries such as Italy, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, the United States, Brazil, Venezuela and Peru, among many others. He has recorded extensively for TV and radio nationwide and has released two albums, featuring Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain and piano works by Andalusian composer Ángel Barrios respectively. He is a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Madrid, where he was taught by Guillermo González, and of the Southern Methodist University of Dallas, where he studied with Joaquín Achúcarro. He has won a number of prizes at national and international piano competitions and courses, including the prestigious Jaén Competition and Accademia Musicale Chigiana. Miguel Ángel R. Laiz has also taught his instrument since 1994. In 2003, he was appointed to the Royal Conservatory of Granada where, since 2017, he has held a professorship of piano.
