(b 1957 )

Three-time GRAMMY®-nominated American composer Miguel del Águila was born in 1957 in Montevideo, Uruguay. His works have been performed by some 60 orchestras, by hundreds of ensembles and soloists, and recorded on more than 30 CDs. After studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and at both Vienna’s Hochschule für Musik and Konservatorium, del Águila settled in the Los Angeles area.

He received the Kennedy Center Friedheim Award in 1995. He was music director of the Ojai Camerata from 1996 to 1999, and from 2001 to 2004 was resident composer at the Chautauqua Music Festival. A two-year composer-in-residence position with the New Mexico Symphony, made possible by a Meet the Composer/Music Alive Award, resulted in the fully staged première of his opera Time and Again Barelas (2007).
