ORCHESTRE SYMPHONIQUE DU MANS

The Orchestre Symphonique des Concerts du Mans is linked to the musical life of Le Mans, a city with a strong cultural tradition. Founded decades ago by Alfred Françaix, the father of composer Jean Françaix, it has been conducted by such masters as Pierre Cochereau and George Enescu, and the finest French conductors, including Tzipine, Froment, Bŗck, Le Conte, Jacquillat, Cardon, Soustrot, Pernoo, Werner and so many others. Enyss Djemil, Pierre Wissmer and André Girard were the successive guides up until 1985, and from 1986 to 1996, José-André Gendille was in charge. In 2010, ADORAMUS (Association for the Development of an Orchestra in Residence, Art, Music, and a Symphonic Union), an active Le Mans association wanting to recreate strong symphonic seasons in Le Mans and the region, brought this Concerts du Mans tradition up to date with musicians from the Sinfonietta de Paris and local artists, in particular the conductor Dominique Fanal. Soloists for that first season included pianists France Clidat, Bruno Rigutto, Roumiana Athanassova and Marie-José Delvincourt, violinist Vinh Pham, cellist Dilshod Nazarov, and soprano Cécile Besnard.
