ROTTERDAM PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in 1918, has steadily developed a reputation as one of Europe’s leading symphonic orchestras. The orchestra’s international reputation grew under Jean Fournet and Edo de Waart in the 1970s and reached new heights under chief conductors Valery Gergiev and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Under Nézet-Séguin (since 2008), the Rotterdam Philharmonic has had many successful international tours and albums.

With the concert and congress hall De Doelen as its home base, the Rotterdam Philharmonic also performs at many prestigious concert halls at home and abroad. Since 2010, the Rotterdam Philharmonic is one of the permanent guest orchestras of the Parisian Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. The orchestra is famed for its intense and energetic performances. For one performance per season, the Rotterdam Philharmonic serves as the opera orchestra at Dutch National Opera.
