Stefan Irmer is regarded as an expert in, and congenial interpreter of, forgotten or infrequently performed piano rarities including works by Muzio Clementi, John Field, Sigismund Thalberg and Jules Massenet. Since 2013 he has taught at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.

From 1997 to 2007 he recorded the first comprehensive series of the piano works of Gioachino Rossini’s Péchés de vieillesse, which have received international acclaim and numerous accolades including the ECHO Klassik Award 2008. In 2007 the first complete performance of Rossini’s later works from the Péchés de vieillesse took place in Cologne under Irmer’s artistic direction. As an accompanist for art song and chamber music, he performs with numerous renowned singers and ensembles and is a regular guest at international festivals.
