Opera News, October 2014

…director Stefano Vizioli…delivers Verdi’s opera pure and simple and lets us enjoy it as its clear, cogent self. Vizioli knows how to set a scene and keep it spinning.

Russian soprano Olesya Golovneva makes a lovely, lyric-weight heroine, her voice bright but never glaring and not incapable of darker tincture; I can’t imagine, visually and dramatically, a better Luisa. © 2014 Opera News Read complete review

I was impressed by the Malmö chorus and orchestra, especially the articulation of the latter. The conductor, Michael Güttler, holds things together well. © 2014 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

The Malmö Opera…regularly explores the byways and this Luisa Miller from 2012 is a worthy addition to the DVD catalogue of the opera.

The production is clean, attractive…

[Lars Arvidson] sings well…and the same goes for the whole cast: The orchestra play well, the recorded sound is great but it is for the singing that this production is worth investing in. The Russian soprano Olesya Golovneva…sings radiantly [as Luisa]. The Canadian tenor Luc Robert…is an eminently satisfying Rodolfo here. Vladislav Sulimsky…is a moving Miller and his arias are high-spots in this opera…Taras Shtonda…is…a mighty Count Walter.

…this DVD is a sure way of falling in love with one of Verdi’s most delectable scores. © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review
