Eric Myers
Opera News, May 2015

[This] is indeed a memorable performance, blessed with a fine quartet of soloists and Jansons’s sensitive leadership of his worthy orchestral and choral forces. Jansons’s love for this music is exquisitely captured in the many close-ups of his conducting; it is very moving to see how he lives and breathes every note of this score, and how much it clearly means to him. The result is evident in his orchestra’s responsive performance, and in the chorus, which is in excellent form, whether shouting the imprecations of the Dies Irae or whispering the pianissimo passages of the Agnus Dei. © 2015 Opera News Read complete review

Ralph V. Lucano
American Record Guide, March 2015

This is a thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying performance of the Requiem… Jansons knows exactly how the music should flow, and he brings out lots of details we don’t always hear, especially in the brass. Tempos are just right, and the well-balanced chorus sings with fervor and appealing tone. © 2015 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

VERDI, G.: Messa da Requiem (Jansons) (NTSC) 102205
VERDI, G.: Messa da Requiem (Jansons) (Blu-ray, HD) 108136

[Jansons’s]…Requiem is a series of coups d’état in which the returns of the actual ‘Dies irae’ or the launch of ‘Rex tremendae majestatis’ are exciting aural shocks. He also devotes much time to enjoying slow quiet endings of movements for emotional effect. I don’t know whether Jansons is any more of a strict church believer than Verdi was but he represents wholeheartedly the text and its inspiration.

The choir is superb from its quiet but very clear beginning onwards. The [video is]…atmospherically filmed without encompassing an architectural tour of the venue and points intelligently to vocal and instrumental leads.

This new interpretation is both exciting and moving. © 2015 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

VERDI, G.: Messa da Requiem (Stoyanova, Prudenskaya, Pirgu, Anastassov, Bavarian Radio Chorus and Symphony, M. Jansons) 900126
VERDI, G.: Messa da Requiem (Jansons) (NTSC) 102205

What Jansons has here is an absolutely first-rate chorus and orchestra… The beauties and terrors of the presentation get equal weight in this performance, with the choral sections exceptionally effective. This is music that is sublime as well as highly dramatic…this Verdi Requiem is at its most impressive. Jansons extracts very fine sound and very involving performances from orchestra and singers… © 2014 Infodad.com Read complete review
