…a fine performance of Meistersinger. Uwe Peper’s David and Gösta Winbergh’s Walther provide all the youthfulness required with their vocal performances. Winbergh, indeed, sings an appropriately detailed Walther, suitably noble…Winbergh’s final verse of the prize song, in Act III, is fully worthy of the moment. There is also a curious, wonderful and unique Hans Sachs from Wolfgang Brendel.

Conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos…and his energetic Berlin musicians provide sparkling illustration of David’s rules, a suitably wild third verse for Walther’s Act I audition, and a sense of how disturbing Sachs’s thoughts turn during the Flieder monologue. He is particularly clever with the lilting, gracious music when Beckmesser has been given the poem in the workshop scene… © 2014 Opera News Read complete review
