Positive Feedback Online, July 2013

What a beautiful recording…that the video and audio qualities of this recording are absolutely of the highest quality. This very special concert in many respects, including honoring Solti’s outstanding musical career, should have almost universal appeal. The orchestral playing is not to be faulted in any aspect, the soprano and bass vocalists are just fine and so is their duet. Solti’s wife introduces many of the selections with just the right touch and respect. Simply an outstanding release that most music lovers should treasure, results in a top recommendation. © 2013 Positive Feedback Online Read complete review

There are superlatives galore in this production and while maestro Gergiev, he of the batonless fluttery fingers, plays these works quite differently from his late colleague, Sir Georg Solti, these are all effective and enjoyable performances. We get a wonderful insight into this select orchestra that Sir Georg founded… Most of all, we are presented an engaging capture of a one-time event that honors the memory of one of the greatest musicians of all time, a conductor who overcame incredible obstacles to rise to the top of his profession. The Solti Centenary Concert is a wonderful disc that all music lovers should have in their library and one that merits frequent replays… © 2013 Read complete review

The playing here is effortless and artful, under the expert leadership of Solti’s hand picked successor Valery Gergiev.

This is a wonderful compendium of pieces which Solti himself considered to be unusually important in his musical history and development. Aided by a stellar cast of guest stars and the fantastic World Orchestra for Peace, and with the really wonderful commentary by Lady Valerie Solti, Solti Centenary Concert is a suitably celebratory outing that helps all classical music lovers to remember just what an iconic figure Solti was. Recommended. © 2013 Read complete review

I…[was] stunned when I got to see the Solti Centenary Concert hosted by the widow of the famed Georg Solti, Valerie Solti, who guides us throughout the fine, rich 112 minutes from The Symphony Center in Chicago. Conducted by Valery Gergiev, she shows up after every major segment and it just gets better and better. This show is rich in history and a show that just builds and builds, making it a contender for one of the best classical Blu-rays for 2013! © 2013 Fulvue Drive-in Read complete review
