BRUCKNER, A.: Symphony No. 4 (Cleveland Orchestra, Welser-Most) (NTSC) 101682
BRUCKNER, A.: Symphony No. 4 (Cleveland Orchestra, Welser-Most) (Blu-ray, Full-HD) 108078

From the gilded and polished Baroque adornments down to Franz Welser‑Möst’s jet cufflinks and the second flautist’s nose stud, there is always plenty to look at in this DVD…Welser‑Möst gives special acknowledgement to the Cleveland Orchestra’s principal horn at the end, when a standing ovation from the audience seems the entirely fitting response to a superbly judged musical and visual venture.

…the sound of the Cleveland Orchestra is superb, refined in detail and matching the grandeur of surroundings that furnish a glorious acoustical bloom. Welser‑Möst, with calm control, is a master of the symphony’s structural and emotional trajectory. © 2013 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

Lawrence D. Devoe, MD, June 2013

This concert received the loving care videography so typical of veteran director Brian Large. Everything about the visual presentation is simply top drawer.

…what struck me the most was how Welser-Möst kept the ebb and flow of this score moving as directed in its score…for all artistic and aesthetic aspects as noted previously, this Blu-ray recording goes readily to the top of my current Bruckner symphonic list. Highly recommended. © 2013 Read complete review

…The Cleveland Orchestra does a fine job of delivering this 1888 arrangement of the classic text. It is as good an introduction to his work as any title we have covered in the last ten years and worth your time. © 2013 Fulvue Drive-in Read complete review
