Remy Franck
Pizzicato, January 2016

Emma Dante’s commedia dell’arte-like staging of Feuersnot is full of imagination and colors, and since Gabriele Ferro does a lot to let the music sound fresh and vivid, the performance is a real rescue operation for Strauss’s unsuccessful opera. © 2016 Pizzicato

STRAUSS, R.: Feuersnot (Teatro Massimo, 2014) (Blu-ray, HD) 109066

This Italian production is inspiringly directed by the formidably talented Emma Dante who engulfs the entire stage in a burst of colour and incessant movement and dancing, because this is Midsummer Night, a night of love.

Italian conductor Gabriele Ferro, 80 years young, makes the music shimmer and pulsate with passion. A cast of thousands, soloists, chorus, dancers plus an omnipresent children’s choir singing like angels, makes the show like a fairy tale. © 2015 The WholeNote Read complete review
