Manuel Ribeiro
Pizzicato, January 2016

With a conventional, yet effective and suitable staging, this is also a musically fine performance with good singers. Highly recommendable especially since we have to deal here with a widely unknown opera by Rossini. © 2016 Pizzicato

Bill White
Fanfare, January 2016

Arsace is the only role Rossini ever wrote for castrato. Here it is taken by Ukrainian mezzo-soprano Lena Belkina, who sings with conviction, if not always great tonal beauty. …The real find here is soprano Jessica Pratt, a young bel canto songbird on the horizon who is very good here. Pratt is large-voiced, with a secure top range and the vocal agility to handle Rossini’s fioratura and decorate it tastefully. © 2015 Fanfare Read complete review

Robert J. Farr
MusicWeb International, August 2015

The eponymous title role is sung by the American Michael Spyres. Sometimes referred to as a ‘baritenor’, his tone is distinctly lyric with a good lower extension and, most important for Rossini’s writing for the role, the ability to go up to E without sounding as if he is having his throat cut.

The sound and the picture quality are excellent. © 2015 MusicWeb International Read complete review
