Andrew Quint
Fanfare, January 2016

Eva Marton brought a formidably powerful and imperious vocal instrument to the title role, creating a very scary character for the first two acts and then convincingly undergoing an Isolde-after-the love-potion kind of transformation after Calaf’s kiss in act III. José Carreras, at the absolute top of his game, is an impassioned Calaf—”Nessun dorma” has dignity and resolve. …Maazel’s energetic leadership from the pit is another considerable strength of the performance. © 2015 Fanfare Read complete review

The WholeNote, September 2015

From its first moment this production seems to be on fire with passion and conviction. The 37-year-old Carreras’ blazing performance shows what supreme powers he had. Maazel, absolutely inspired and focused, has the orchestra playing at the top of its form. The unfettered, audiophile-quality sound combined with an elemental, totally assured Eva Marton in the role make for a gripping, compelling Turandot, one I would not want to be without. © 2015 The WholeNote Read complete review
