Michael Johnson, February 2017

Musically it is very fine: the three main singers are excellent, and the orchestra “La Scintilla” under William Christie is a dazzling delight. © 2017 Read complete review

The standout in the cast—partly because of new appreciation since his untimely death in 2005—is South African tenor Deon van der Walt, who confirms his reputation for purity of tone and style in the role of Pylas. His understated blending of voice, line and emotion grows ever more gripping, apparently inspiring his partners. Soprano Galstian’s Iphigénie is balanced and tastefully intense, and the charismatic Rod Gilfry seizes attention with his cinematic gaze and flaring nostrils while rendering Oreste’s anguish with pliant mezza-voce phrasing. © 2017 Opera News Read complete review

Fanfare, January 2017

Gluck’s Iphigénie en Aulide is paired with Iphigénie en Tauride. Marc Minkowski leads Les Musiciens du Louvre Grenoble and also has a cast of excellent singers. …director Pierre Audi lays his heavy hand on both works to bring them up to contemporary standards. © 2017 Fanfare Read complete review

Richard Sininger
American Record Guide, July 2016

Musically this is a very strong cast. The Armenian mezzo Juliette Galstian makes a beautiful Iphigenia, both physically and vocally. She has a creamy, rich sound that fits Gluck’s vocal writing perfectly. As her long-lost brother Oreste, American baritone Rodney Gilfry looks and sounds like the perfect young Greek hero. He projects both the nobility of his lineage and the guilt that haunts him, and his voice at this point in his career was one of the best lyric baritones on the world operatic scene. As his beloved friend Pylades, the late South African tenor Deon van der Walt sings very well and shows the devotion he holds for Oreste. William Christie leads a nearly-perfect musical performance. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide
