Eric Myers
Opera News, October 2016

Roger Daltrey, of The Who, is an interesting choice as Macheath. He holds the screen with his handsome-ugly presence, …He sings respectably, …eschewing rock-style contemporary phrasing. …In her brief appearance, Isla Blair, as Jenny, projects a riveting, barely repressed resentment. Peachum is Stratford Johns—portly, crafty, and self-amused, with an elegant speaking voice and diction far clearer than his colleagues’. It’s unfortunate that Patricia Routledge only appears in Act I, as Mrs. Peachum, because she’s wickedly entertaining. If she is indeed doing her own singing, it is a remarkably plummy and beautiful mezzo. © 2016 Opera News Read complete review
