Elliot Fisch
American Record Guide, July 2017

This is the most star studded of the Unitel productions. It has Eberhard Wächter (famous in opera and operetta) as the Count, and his strong baritone and savoir-faire are perfect for the part. As Basilo, there is Erich Kunz, who has performed on many recordings and knows how to play the wounded lover perfectly. Lilian Sukis sings Angele very nicely, …The production is deluxe, with beautiful sets and costumes; and the stereo sound is very good.

The outdoor performance is spectacular without overwhelming the story, the performances and dancing are energetic, the comedy is amusing, and the singing by the leads is wonderful. Most important, you care about the characters, their predicament, and the joyous outcome. The production includes 20 extra minutes of Lehar’s glorious music and it is time very well spent. © 2017 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Fanfare, July 2017

The German leads, Eberhard Wächter as the Count, Lilian Sukis as opera singer Angele Didier, and Erich Kunz as Prince Basil, are all fine singers in their own right as well as strong actors. …The result here is a first-class telling of the story with much of Lehár’s fine music retained. © 2017 Fanfare Read complete review
