Robert Cummings
Classical Net, June 2014

…both concerto performances are quite fine, though I must say the Rachmaninov Second is outstanding, easily among the best I’ve encountered.

The Tchaikovsky is well played too…Overall, this is a solid performance…

Vladimir Lande leads the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra with a knowing hand in both works. In the Beethoven Sonata…Nebolsin gives a fine performance…

The camera work is very good…If you’re looking for a video of these two concertos, you won’t be disappointed with these performances…Strongly recommended. © 2014 Classical Net Read complete review

David's Review Corner, March 2014

I hope concert recordings in DVD format grows into a new venture for Naxos, the present disc offering three performances from the virtuoso pianist, Eldar Nebolsin. Filmed in the gorgeous setting of St.Petersburg’s Capella Concert Hall…the visual aspects offer one of the most successful music DVD’s I have seen. As for Nebolsin’s performances, they are just as hugely eloquent and exciting as I would expect having reviewed several of his studio recordings. Technically he is impeccable even when hands flash around the keyboard, his big cadenzas in both concertos as electrifying as you will hear anywhere on disc. The St. Petersburg State Symphony…bring neat accompaniments, the modest size of their string departments still able to build an impressive weight at the appropriate moments. Yet it is the orchestra’s woodwind, with delightful cameo solos from flute and oboe, that particularly captured my attention. As a bonus track, we have a very thoughtful and unfussy reading of Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Sonata, spotlessly clean in execution, and may well point out to Naxos that a complete cycle of the sonatas from Nebolsin would be a very welcome future project. Throughout the sound quality is very good. © 2014 David’s Review Corner
