The Delian, December 2008

The London film actually uses some of the same footage used in an earlier DVD about London. There are some interesting shot’s of the Thames, Big Ben, etc., at night and also during a rather grayish day. Perhaps the best shots are the interiors of Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral, but we don’t see everything. There are many repetitive views of the various buildings at the Tower of London and interior shots of the Armory but not the Crown Jewels. I presume this was not permitted.

Hyde Park and the Speaker’s Corner is there as well as Kensington Palace and Gardens, but it seems to be autumn and we see nothing of the gorgeous Flower Walk. The Covent Garden area, Belgravia, the Natural History Museum, the V&A, and Buckingham Palace get brief treatments.

Hampton Vourt was filmed on a sunny day, but there are no shots at all of the fabulous rose gardens etc. It may have been the wrong time of year once again. Little of significance is seen at Greenwich except the Cutty Sark which was destroyed by fire a couple of years ago and which may be restored if there is enough left. The Royal Naval College closed some years back, and Trinity College of Music now occupies some of the buildings. The Painted Hall and Chapel are still there, of course, but we do not see them.

So, what we have is fair but there is too much missing to give this a high recommendation.
