Lawrence D. Devoe, MD, June 2013

This generous Blu-ray release gives us the two most popular of Anton Bruckner’s nine symphonies, Symphony No. 4 also known as “The Romantic,” and Symphony No. 7…Conductor Thielemann does a nice job maintaining the musical pulse yet letting us hear the glory and grandeur that is Bruckner. His Munich orchestral forces feature strong string and brass sections that carry the day in works like these.

Agnes Meth works her video magic again with nice balance among the players, conductors and venue. Both concerts received good color treatment.

…this Blu-ray provides two very good performances on a single disc… © 2013 Read complete review

Robert Cummings
Classical Net, June 2013

…Thielemann knows his Bruckner and always seems to deliver the musical goods. Without doubt, these two performances are excellent and do offer strong evidence of his superior skills in this repertory.

The phrasing…throughout the symphony always seems perfectly appropriate and thoroughly convincing.

The camera work throughout the more than two and a half hours of music on the disc is most imaginative and appropriate and the sound reproduction very good…There are many fine versions of these symphonies…but Thielemann can rank with the best…Thielemann has little competition and so for Brucknerians…this Blu-ray is probably essential. © 2013 Classical Net Read complete review
