Patrick Dillon
Opera News, March 2014

…Massimo Checchetto’s opening set…is winningly picturesque…Bepi Morassi’s staging within it seems perfectly natural, its charms never forced.

Pratt has a beautiful, expressive face, ever alive to Amina’s changing fortunes and her unchanging love. Her voice, too, is lovely and expressive…She’s endearingly simple, just as Amina should be.

Gabriele Ferro conducts the Fenice forces with grace and practiced style…The sound is spacious and the Blu-ray image crystal clear. © 2014 Opera News Read complete review

BELLINI, V.: Sonnambula (La) (La Fenice, 2012) (NTSC) 713908
BELLINI, V.: Sonnambula (La) (La Fenice, 2012) (Blu-ray, HD) 714004

The present performance…is strong musically and more complete textually than it would have been in days of yore (Callas and Tullio Serafin). The sub‑plot of secunda donna Lisa’s attempt to compromise heroine Amina gets a fuller run for its money with her attempts to return to a relationship with Elvino.

The cast has been carefully assembled. English‑born, Australian‑bred Jessica Pratt vocalises the put‑upon heroine with skill and beauty. Georgian tenor Shalva Mukeria…clearly knows his way well round Elvino’s far from easy notes, and sounds suitably Romantic. Giovanni Battista Parodi—the Freud avant la lettre of this drama—is wholly convincing in voice and action. Gabriele Ferro, an experienced and classy conductor of this repertoire, is on terrific form, as is his orchestra. © 2014 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone
