Steven Ritter
Audiophile Audition, September 2014

American Gregory Kunde offers a sterling presentation while Carmela Remigio’s Desdemona, despite her rather small instrument, is nicely rendered and coupled with outstanding acting. © 2014 Audiophile Audition Read complete review

Robert Cummings
Classical Net, September 2014

This is a quite lavish production of Otello that should…please both traditionalists and progressives.

…Gregory Kunde as Otello and Carmela Remigio as Desdemona, are both splendid. Kunde is an imposing presence on stage and has a powerful voice and good dramatic skills. Veteran baritone Lucio Gallo makes a deliciously villainous Iago. The rest of the cast is splendid. Conductor Myung-Whun Chung, always maintains a fine sense for the appropriate tempo and for subtle phrasing, and he draws fine playing from the orchestra and committed singing from the chorus.

The camera work and picture quality are fine, and despite the outdoor venue the sound reproduction is very good…Overall, this is a splendid production of Otello that scores high on almost every count. Highly recommended. © 2014 Classical Net Read complete review

MusicWeb International, August 2014

Korean Myung-Whun Chung’s…strong vibrant rending of Verdi’s score, from memory, is a vital contribution to the impact of the performance from the opening to the dying chords. The opening storm is orchestrally magnificent in its aural impact along with the chorus.

Carmela Remigio…portrays her strength of purpose and vulnerability as she shares her feelings and history with Emilia in the last act. Her vocal characterization is good…

The architecture of the location is magnificent as are the visual effects… © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review
