ODEONSPLATZ CONCERT 2013 (THE) - Verdi and Wagner (Villazón, Hampson, Nézet-Séguin) (Blu-ray, HD) 716804

The recorded sound and performances are outstanding and the visuals are stunning.

Nézet-Séguin conducts all [of the] works impressively. The orchestra and chorus perform admirably. © 2014 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

…the most resounding hits were the orchestra and chorus…led with aplomb by…world-renowned conductor, Yannick Nézet-Séguin. His youthful exuberance was infectious and he brought out idiomatic and superbly pointed performances like the rousing Entry of the Guests amplified by the wonderful natural acoustics so that it must have been heard all over Munich. © 2014 The WholeNote Read complete review

Both singers are in top form…Nézet-Séguin’s vital conducting adds much to the occasion. The large chorus is superb, particularly in the concluding famous chorus from Nabucco. © 2014 ClassicalCDReview.com Read complete review

MusicWeb International, August 2014

After a quiet opening to the overture from Verdi’s I vespri siciliani, Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin let the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra off the leash. This was a vibrant introduction to the concert whilst the cameras showed the local architecture, rooftops and statues…Thomas Hampson…sang with immaculate line and diction in Ce breuvage pourrait me donner from Massenet’s Hérodiade. Rolando Villazon shared Hampson’s elegant vocal characteristics in Ah! tout est bien fini…O Souverain, ô juge, ô père from Le Cid.

What was surely the highlight of the concert…[was] the long duet between Rodrigo and Don Carlos, E lui Desso l’infante…Dio, che nell’ alma infondere. © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review
