Bill White
Fanfare, July 2013

The production is helped along by some pretty good singing and some quite compelling acting, especially by dramatic soprano Sylvie Valayre. She provides plenty of vocal heft and steel while still able to sing softly and remain musically enjoyable…Her dramatic portrayal [of Lady Macbeth] is…one of the most compelling I have seen. The Banco of Enrico Giuseppe Iori and the Malcolm of tenor Nicola Pascoli are both entirely satisfactory as are most of the smaller singing roles. Veteran Bruno Bartoletti leads the Parma orchestral forces with a firm hand and a sure sense of pacing in one of Verdi’s most enjoyable early scores.

Viewing this Parma staging…I…find it quite entertaining and well worth the price. As of now, it is also the only video recording of Macbeth in high definition Blu-ray. Recommended. © 2013 Fanfare Read complete review
